Visitors, Guests, Program Participants, and More
The resources on this page are for visitors to UW-Madison looking to receive disability-related accommodations. Visitors can include guests, program participants, job applicants, event attendees, and generally anyone attending an event hosted by a UW-Madison entity, including events hosted through UW Extension.
Accommodations for Visitors at UW-Madison
For visitors and program participants to UW-Madison, most accommodations are requested and provided directly through the hosting unit. However, the Visitor and Program Participant Access Consultant at the McBurney Center is available to answer questions, consult with departments, and assist in identifying who to contact to make a request. To help ensure that the University is able to review and implement requested accommodations, it is important that requests be submitted as early as possible.
Common Department Contacts for Visitor Accommodations
Visitors and program participants typically make disability accommodation requests directly to the department or program hosting the event. For example, requests for accommodations at a football game are made to the UW Athletics Department. Requests for accommodations at a performance at the Union Theater are made to the Wisconsin Union.
Visitors and program participants are strongly encouraged to make their request for accommodations as far in advance as possible with the hosting unit. Accommodations may be denied if the hosting unit does not have sufficient time to review, determine, or plan for a reasonable accommodation.
This table provides a list of some common departments and their contact information for reasonable accommodations:

Accessible Transportation Resources
UW Transportation Services Accessible Circulator Shuttle provides wheelchair accessible transportation from campus building to campus building, Monday through Friday, during Fall and Spring semesters. The shuttle is intended to supplement campus bus and paratransit service, and is available to visitors as well as students, employees, and affiliates.
Madison Metro’s Paratransit Service provides wheelchair accessible, curb to curb service from one building to another, rather than from bus stop to bus, for individuals with disabilities who cannot use Metro’s accessible fixed-route bus service. An application and assessment is required to use this service, but Metro will accept the ADA paratransit certification of another transit agency if you have been determined eligible in your home community.
