Graduate study in rehabilitation counseling/rehabilitation psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison may be a great choice if you are interested in a professional career in counseling, case management, and the provision of other services to people with all types of disabilities including mental illness, physical disabilities, and developmental disabilities. Graduates of UW-Madison's master's degree program meet the educational requirement for the national Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) credential and for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential in Wisconsin and many other states that have provisions for the licensure of professional counselors. The program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is tied for the No. 1 ranking by U.S. News and World Report among all graduate programs in rehabilitation counseling in all universities nationwide.
The program is currently accepting applications for the upcoming spring semester, summer session, and fall semester. The usual date for full consideration for spring admission is October 15; however, because they are getting this information out to potential applicants now, they will delay consideration of spring applications until December 1, 2008, and all complete applications received by November 24, 2008 will be considered for January 2009 admission. They are also accepting applications for the 2009 summer session and 2009 fall semester and will begin considering those applications in March 2009, with a February 15, 2009 date for full consideration.
At the rehabilitation psychology program website you will find a new video providing information and commentary by faculty and graduate students discussing the merits of the program. If you do not have the QuickTime player to view the video, you can download it for free at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/
The web site also includes information on graduate programs, admissions and application procedures, and a variety of other information about faculty, the profession of rehabilitation counseling, and other aspects of our program and department.
If you have any questions, please contact Norm Berven at nlbervren@wisc.edu or Ruth Torkelson Lynch at rlynch@education.wisc.edu. Professor Lynch coordinates master's program admissions.
