McBurney Disability Resource Center

FUNDING FACT SHEET

  • HOW ARE SERVICES PROVIDED THROUGH MCBURNEY?

Services available from the McBurney Disability Resource Center are generally provided at no cost by McBurney staff or by local volunteers. Some services are provided by specially hired, paid employees (e.g., readers, library assistants, etc.).

  • WHO FUNDS SERVICES THAT REQUIRE PAYMENT?

The source of funding for paid services varies according to the individual student. McBurney funds most paid services they provide. Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) may also provide funding, particularly for non-Wisconsin students and for services the University is not obligated to provide. Students interested in VR services should apply as early as possible prior to the semester services are needed since the VR application process can take three months or longer.

  • HOW DO I APPLY TO DVR?

Students who are already on campus can arrange through McBurney to meet with an on campus VR representative if they have a Wisconsin address and consider Wisconsin their primary residence. Students who have not yet moved to campus should try to complete the application process with their local VR Office before school begins.

  • AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR SERVICES?

Students are not responsible for paying for disability-related accommodations or services provided by McBurney.
