McBurney Disability Resource Center

Document Conversion Volunteer


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Assist with the Document Conversion Program at McBurney Disability Resource Center. The Document Conversion Service provides audio, electronic or Braille versions of textbooks and other reading materials to students with visual and learning disabilities.

Specific responsibilities of the position include the following:

  1. Pick-up and deliver copies of books.
  2. Scan print materials into electronic format.
  3. Proofread and edit the electronic format to ensure consistency between print and electronic versions.
  4. Assist with the alternative format textbook library.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Ability or willingness to learn to use scanning software and hardware.
  2. Strong proofreading and editing skills.
  3. Constant attention to accuracy and detail.


HOURS:



Volunteers generally work 2-4 hours per week. Some projects need to be completed at McBurney during office hours, while other projects may be done at home if the volunteer has access to needed computer software.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:



  1. Call, email the Document Conversion Coordinator, or stop by the office for an application.
  2. Submit completed application via email (preferred), in person, fax or mail.


  3. McBurney Disability Resource Center is located at 1305 Linden Drive. Office hours are 8:00 - 4:30pm, Monday-Friday. For more information about the position, call (608)265-5468.
